This is of interest to me as well.

I recently traveled by train and typically look out the window for a while, read a physical book and occasionally check e-mail. I noticed most other passengers not only looking at their phone but also multi-tasking with their laptop. One was playing solitaire while talking on her phone. My guess is that many people are not used to having down time to "look out the window" and contemplate.

Some people do read on their phone but I also noticed the passenger next to me was gaming. I think playing games is also a big thing.

That is the same answer I gave you. Anything you can do on a computer you can do on the phone.

Well, the catch is........I don't do that. So saying anything you can do on your computer isn't answering the question I am asking.

LOL Forgot that one!

Had a very similar discussion with someone recently. "Remember when people used to talk to each other when waiting in line or on the bus?"

Um...

Now I AM a people person and love talking to strangers on the bus or in line. I AM THE MINORITY, I assure you.

Is it just text? Is it just music? Is it who said what on CD? This Oldie von Moldie inquires to know.
Information. Like reading a newspaper used to be.

My guess is anything titillating or downright salacious.

Guilty.

This x1000. Now is all of that information useful, no, but phones have replaced newspapers as information conduits. Fortunately or unfortunately, the amount of information is exponentially greater than ever before and far easier to consume.

If I am on my phone, it's usually because I am reading a book on my Kindle app. Or, I could be looking up information on some topic that has caught my interest. I don't watch videos on the phone because I hate watching on the small screen. You won't see me looking at the phone while walking, unless I am looking at a map. If I need to text or respond to a text, I step to the side and stop walking until I am done. I don't look at the phone in the car unless I am stopped at a light and need to see what my wife or kid is texting me about. If a reply is necessary, I will pull into a parking lot.

I don't know why the OP needed to know, and I don't know why anyone should care. What someone else does with their phone is nobody else's business. I don't judge folks using their phone however they choose to and it rarely affects my life as long as they do it in a safe manner. Next......
