I am a single 28 year-old white male looking for a good place to live in the Charleston area, if I decide to move there. I make good money ($60K - $80K range) and want to live in a safe, clean area that is not crime ridden or depressed. I am not a very social person and don't care about bars, clubs or entertainment.
Single 28-year old? James Island would be good, even though it is a little expensive ($200,000-$400,000 houses and some a little more). Riverland Terrace is a good neighborhood. You are about 7-10 minutes from downtown Charleston, about 15 or so from a mall, and there's lots of shopping nearby. It's about 20 from the airport.
James Island, West Ashley, Mount Pleasant, Summerville, etc. All would be contingent upon how close you needed to be to certain amenities, work, locations, etc. You could accomplish a great deal in either of the above areas if you're purchasing. If you're looking at renting, again, the above locations would likely suit you as well as Daniel Island and a few others.

Any suggestions? Thanks.
There's only one crime ridden place but it is pretty obvious.
Since I spend most of my time at home in general, I don't really care to be near big shopping, dining or anything like that. I don't mind driving a bit to do those things. I prefer nature activities such as walking, hiking and the occasional trip to the beach. I don't like traffic, noise or close neighbors. I prefer peace and quiet. When I want socialization, I will have friends over or go out and meet them somewhere. That's how I am. So as long as I am within about 25 min. to Charleston, I'll be happy. Also, I would prefer not to live in a very religious or family oriented community, since I am gay and atheist.
I am well educated and hold a master's degree in accounting with 5 yrs of experience. I absolutely love heat and humidity, too, as long as I have AC in the home!
MtP and Folly are are far from 'peaceful and quiet', they are both in the hustle and bustle of everyday life.....
You should look at some of the unincorporated areas of Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties. You can have you natural atmosphere with space from your neighbors and still be within driving distance of Charleston....
