Know what I love most about switching to a small dog?
When he whines the grass is wet outside and won't go out. I pick him up and toss him. He then starts to walk around and goes, then walks back in and curls up on the couch next to me.
All the flood whining is going on here at my house. This big boy is whimpering at the door begging the rain to stop.
I'm not sure if you noticed, that dog has stolen one of the boys sweatshirts!

Heehee
I tried putting the hoodie on so he wouldn't feel the rain drops, then I went out with an umbrella to try to coax him with a hotdog. No dice. Then the lightning started crashing overhead and I decided he could hold it.
In the meantime my other dane was running in and out of the house have a great time in the rain, and probably laughing at her brother, too!
They let us out of work around 3:30 the day it flooded so that no one would be stuck downtown when the tide was coming in. That was the only time we have been let out early in the year and a half I have been there due to flooding. The only other time we were let out early was when Irene came by. There was talk of the bridges closing if the winds hit 40 mph, so they let us out in the early afternoon.
Back to the flooding. I was under the impression that a lot of downtown drainage was repaired to keep it from flooding as bad.
Especially the Market area and the east end of Calhoun Street. Any one know? I do know that the cross town is being worked on now.

There hasn't been any drainage work in the upper peninsula that I know of. I can think of at least a few blocked drains on President, Poplar, and probably some of the others where the road stops at I-26.
If Charleston is part of the "Low Country," I'm surprised there's no panic concerning the rainfall amts. I guess that if big rains and floods are typical, you folks don't get too excited about it. I assume that all basements have sump pumps with backup batteries or generators.
