Hello! I will be relocating to Charleston, SC Around April 12-15th. I am having difficultly finding available apartments. There are a few that have openings for 2 bedroom apartments, but not so great reviews on-line. I was hoping maybe someone here knows more about the reputation. I am looking for a place under $1200/month b/c I know I will be sending a lot more on utilities than I am used too. I know the electric bills there run from $100-200/month, water $25-30/month....at least from what I have been hearing.
Has anyone heard of:
1. Colonial Grand at Quarterdeck on James Island?
2. The Island apartment/townhomes on James Island?
3. Plantation Oaks in West Ashley?
4. Colonial Village at Hampton Pointe in West Ashley?
5. Edgewater apartments in Mount Pleasant?
6. Runaway bay in Mount Pleasant?
I am flexible on location, I just have to be within 30 minutes of MUSC hospital.
You may want to check Woodfield South Point in West Ashley. It's a new complex and very nice. For a 1BR, it cost us $914/month but it did include internet/cable/valet trash.
They also have a sister property in Mount Pleasant called Woodfield Long Point.
MUSC is a disaster for employee parking, so unless you are guarenteed a parking spot in one of the garages, I would try to live downtown or someplace that has a CARTA bus spot nearby.
* As a MUSC employee, you ride for free*
As an employee you get free parking, but the free lots fill up quick usually before 7:00 am near Riley Stadium. Garages: you pay monthly ($55+), and last time I checked they have waitlists.
One of the best around is up in North Charleston (Ladson) right near Charleston Southern Univ. It's close to everything and they have great amenities. Whenever I have a client relocating to Charleston, these apartments are always on my list...
Im going to be honest...Any review before 2012 you should throw out the window...Charleston has changed 100% since 2012...Areas are safer, and grown a lot in the last 2 years
Quarterdeck on James Island has a pretty bad reputation as I understand it. Shame, because the location is great for MUSC.
I've heard The Islands are OK but the traffic to MUSC will mean dealing with Folly Rd which can be messy. If you're going in at 6:30AM it won't be bad though.
The apartments in North Charleston near CSU are safe. There are pockets of North Charleston with crime but that area is nice, convenient to I-26 and also lots of restaurants, stores, mall, etc, not too far away.
