I'm in North MtP and hear frogs, birds, and crickets in the evenings depending on the weather. The largest noise pollution we get is the occasional single engine plane landing at the airport or a middle aged dude in his new Harley/toy.
Mt. Pleasant is basically split into two towns (South and North) 29464 is Old Mt Pleasant and the southern part. 29466 is called North of the Isle of Palms Connector (North Mt. Pleasant) and is mostly new construction and newer developments. 95% of the growth in Mt Pleasant is north due to road infrastructure and the natural lay of the land. I live in the 29464 zip and love it's location (I'm a 1/10 of a mile from I526 and 5 minutes to downtown, 7 minutes to the beach)
I would never say that MtP is split into two towns. Just because there are two zips doesn't mean that. And newer developments being more prevelent north of the IOP Connector just means it's like any other growing town (where growth happens more along the edges rather than in the previously developed center).
While I cannot recall, it seems to me I read an article some 5-8 years back (when I lived in MTP) that said 70% of people moving into MTP were moving in from another town in SC. Maybe some realtor has a more up to date demographic study.

I always think of it as 2 towns. The large 29466 developments are almost like self-contained towns. My perspective from bike riding is that after (north of) the IOP connector, it's be on Hwy 17 or into a development to the West. To the East on the north end, there's a lot of non-MtP "donut holes" or unincorporated areas.
29464 has named neighborhoods but feels like an open town all together. Hard to explain; just "the feel".
Here's an article from a 2012 explaining that although we have a positive birth rate, the bulk of the population growth is from folks moving here from other areas. Berkeley County and Dorchester have had the highest increases percentage wise, but Charleston is still, at this point, the population leader in the tri-county area.
If you "hate" the North and Northerners, please do yourself a favor and move elsewhere. You will not be happy in MP. I moved here (from California) last year and 98 % of my neighbors are from OH, PA, NY, IN, NJ.
And, in case you don't read (newspapers) - Charleston is a city of LOVE, brother - NOT 'hate' -- so you would not fit in, period.
Sounds like a SMALL town is where you belong.
If you want to live around true southerners, I wouldn't suggest Mt. P. There are a lot of northern transplants. I am one myself. I am always surprised when I meet someone in town that actually grew up here. I think it is a great town. The people are nice, everything you could possibly want is in this town, and there is always something to do.
