Okay, remember you are in South Carolina now. Where slow drivers drive in the left hand lane and fast drivers drive to the right. If you keep this in mind, you will never get mad.
This obviously isn't how traffic works in South Carolina as a whole.
Charleston in particular just has a lot of weird traffic designs where, for no clear reason, a temporary right-lane will open up, then merge back. People who are familiar with the roads will use them as passing lanes, which causes a lot of problems.
The people driving in the left lane thing is not referencing downtown driving patterns...doesn't matter downtown. But on 17 on 26, on 526...folks get in that left lane....barely do the speed limit and just stay there. Often you are better off to drive in the right lane and pass them....they don't get it.

I agree completely regarding 26 and 526, but 17 in Mount Pleasant isn't an interstate and shouldn't be treated as such.
For us here in Mt. Pleasant there are left hand turn lanes. We don't get slowed down by that here. I know further down on 17 it gets to be a mess though.
