Bumping up this old thread to see if there are any new thoughts out there about Kiawah River Estates. We are looking to move off the peninsula to something further out (read: cash in on the ridiculous amount of money people are paying for houses in our current neighborhood).

We like that Kiawah River Estates is on a golf course, prices are (relatively) more reasonable, and has Freshfields and Bohicket nearby. Does anyone know how kid friendly it is? Or know anyone who lives there and can speak to how the community feels?

Thanks,

I've toured homes there with clients when searching but I've never had anyone buy in there. It's a nice community though. They did have some pretty serious flooding during the Oct '15 rains. Not sure if any houses were flooded but some of the streets were pretty deep. That would have to be looked into for each individual property.

I don't think it is a very kid-focused neighborhood. Nothing down that way is. A lot of the houses on Kiawah/Seabrook are second homes. There might be a lot of kids during the summer but not so much for the school year. Anyone in those communities would likely be taking their kids to private school. The closest one is Charleston Collegiate School. Charleston Collegiate is pre-k through 12th grade and I think is less than 300 kids.

Thanks. It makes sense on both fronts. Our kids are at Porter so school quality isn't really a factor for us, but I assume anything really outside of town is not going to have a lot of kids.

It would be a long haul getting the kids into PG from Kiawah River Estates. There are kid focused neighborhoods as far out as Carolina Bay/Grand Oaks area in West Ashley and going up 61 farther as well. In Mt Pleasant you can go as far out as Tupelo but Johns Island is a different story. There are some closer in neighborhoods being built on Johns Isl that will probably have a lot of kids one day...
