[quote=spiveslude;15117095] An hour later I completed the construction of my makeshift beesuit composed of layer upon layer of old clothes sealed with ducktape, ski goggles and rain boots.

I would love to see a picture of this!! One of those priceless moments no doubt!

As much fun as the pyros have lighting things on fire, you don't actually have to set the nest on fire to kill them. Have a shovel full of dirt handy near by. Then pour a few cups of gas down the hole and then cover the hole with the dirt. Its the fumes that kill them and its about as HUMANE as you can get.

The absolute key is to do this at night when they are ALL in the nest and dormant. You can mark the nest with a landscaping flag if you think u can't find it at night.

Don't use gas, a little kerosene or diesel fuel works great, it's not as combustible as gas and burns for longer once it's in the ground, will take care of them quickly

Yes....they'll chase, sting and bite. They really are nasty little buggers!! DH ran into some in the back yard last summer....he ran around to the front yard and they were still chasing and stinging. He got stung about 9 times and he was only near the nest for a few seconds. Most of the stings came after he left nest area.

I have actually started a flare and stuck it in their entrance and smoked them out. They actually go to sleep. You can get a shovel and dig them out fairly easy. I wouldn't take more than 10 minutes though because they'll wake up. BTW, their grubs in the nest are good for bait.
