Hello there. I am moving to Charlotte in a few weeks for a new job. I will be working at Good Shpered UMC in the Steele Creek area. I was hoping to find something slightly closer to uptown, but also close to work. I would really like to stay under $700 for rent. As a single female I would also like to make sure it is a safe community to live in. Does anyone have a suggestion of good complexes that might fit my needs? Thanks so much!!

Good Shepard UMC is in a good location and I hope you enjoy your new job! I know you might want to stay under $700, but in safer areas you'll have a harder time doing that, though you may get close to $700. Here are my suggestions for nice complexes between the church and uptown:

Colonial Grand at Ayrsley
Alta Steele Creek
Steelecroft Farm
Gramercy Square at Ayrsley

Stone Ridge is also nice and you could probably find something close to your price range.

Check out Marquis of Carmel Valley and Marquis at Carmel Commons. Both are owned by same company. A lot of young professionals live in these apartments and there is no riff raff and they do background checks. Here are the links:

Apartments Pet Friendly Charlotte - Marquis of Carmel Valley - Charlotte, NC 28226

Apartments South Charlotte - Marquis at Carmel Commons - Charlotte, NC 28226

Be sure to ask for their specials. You can get apartments for very cheap now. Last year when I was looking they had a very nice one bedroom for under $600 with a view of the woods which was quiet and peaceful and a one bedroom with a garage for around $620 or something like that. I have looked at some of the apartments in the Steele Creek area and while the apartments themselves were nice, they were more expensive and there seemed to be more riff raff. Check out Apartment Ratings :: The leading source of apartment reviews by renters for renters. and also the police reports at home and also drive through each complex different times of the day. You will get a good feel that way. I wish the ones in Steele Creek area had worked out for me because it is so close to where I work and very convenient location but I couldn't look past the super cheap rent in another complex farther away. Oh well!
