Hi all,

we travel to Charlotte in the mid of July and will stay about two weeks (16. to 30.)

It would be great if you could give us some hints which places we definitely have to see and some locations to eat / drink "the real american way" or just in good quality with a normal price-quality-ratio. Or any other clubs etc. to have a nice time.

Also we would like to watch some sports which America is famous for (Basketball, American Football, Baseball, Icehockey...). But unfortunately the leagues which are also famous around here (NBA, NFL...) all have a break between the two seasons. So, is anything going around in Charlotte regarding sports or would it be useless to look out for?

Many thanks in advance for your help!

Best regards from Germany,
Tobias

Tobias, I think that you might enjoy going to BBQ (Barbeque) places in the area, as well as seeing the area.

Are you going to be travelling with children?

My suggestion for the top restaurant is BrickTop's Restaurant - Atlanta, Charlotte, Naples, Nashville. They have great quality and I have never had a bad meal or service there.

If you want something Southern, get their Deviled Eggs. I have had just about everything on the menu and it is always good.

Both,

Thanks for your reply! BBQ would be great, love it. Can you suggest any places?

We will travel w/o children.

Also thanks for the other hint. I will keep it in mind!

Many regards,
Tobias

Tobias, tell us what sorts of things you'd like to see & do & we'll tell you about places to eat (including BBQ) in your travels.

I thought that you'd like the idea of BBQ. I have been to the Bitburg area & Trier & know that you can get some very authentic American food near the bases.

Speaking of sports, are you interested in NASCAR?

Charlotte Knights minor league baseball. Inexpensive enjoyable night out.

There isn't much in regards to sports or other big outdoors activities in mid-July. The weather in Charlotte will be very hot and people tend to stay indoors to avoid it. Expect to see daily highs between 95F - 100F (35C - 38C) along with high humidity. It can get as high as 40C though not very often.

One option during this hot period would be the National Whitewater Center.

Old Hickory House BBQ on North Tryon near Tom Hunter Road/I85. They have no website.

Old Hickory House BBQ Restaurant

You can ignore the review snippets on that page such as "Authentic homemade Italian food" since they don't serve any Italian food. The bad reference to their service is probably because someone didn't like the sassy waitresses.

Probably can't get more American than this. Get the Salt & Pepper style.

Thanks for all the recommendations. We just want to check-out the local style of the US and especially Charlotte. So get a feeling for the country and it's people - apart from all the Hollywood-Style

We will definitely try the BBQ and watch a game of the Charlotte Knights. Do we have to reserve/buy tickets early online or could we buy them at the day of the game without the risk that they are "sold out".

A visit of the NASCAR Hall of Fame is also on schedule

We have never been to Charlotte (neither the US) and just looked on the weather charts which pointed out a temp of about 30 - 32°C. But 35°C+ shortens the outside options a bit

We also thought about renting a car and drivin' down to wherever. We hope this will give us also a feeling for the surrounding area.
