Ok,

I've posted a few times about looking for houses or apartments in the Charlotte area. After some searching, and responses here, I've expanded my search, and raised my pricing comforts.
I've found a place that looks decent in the pics, but we've not been there to look yet because its in gastonia. Are there any decent places out there? It looks kinda far away from Charlotte, but since I haven't found a job down here, and will be living on savings until I find one, it's not that important.
The place i'm looking at is georgetown Village. Apartmentratings website has pretty dismal ratings, but then again, most places on that site seem to be pretty low. Surely, not every apartment in NC has giant roaches and open drug deals as the site would lead you to believe.

What street are these on? What is your new budget?

Gatsonia has is the third largest city in the metro, behind Charlotte and Concord. It has many of the same stores and restaurants that Charlotte has. It is not that far from Charlotte. Of course your starting and ending point and time of day traveling would affect the commute time, generally speaking Gastonia is 35 minutes or less to Uptown, NW, SW and South Charlotte (and please no challenges about this from posters unfamiliar with the area ). Obviously rush hour traffic is a slower, longer commute.

they're on Hudson blvd, and new budget hasn't increased dramatically, but I figure I can wring out $700 a month reasonably well and still have money to pay utilities, and have a life for a year.

Thanks.

Did you mean Georgetown Woods? I'm not familiar with those particular apartments but that is a good area. I know they are managed by the same company that manages a complex I was going to recommend, Brentwood Chase. Also look at another one of their properties, Catawba Apartments in Belmont. We aren't allowed to post links. Google brentwood chase gastonia nc and the realty company should be one of the first links.

You can find nice places in Charlotte for $700. Look on craigslist, one bedroom apt is around that number. South and North Charlotte are good places to live, South is more expensive but overall you can find a nice place. When I moved here, I stayed in a hotel for a week and drove around to check out different places. Look at people willing to let you take over their lease, lots of these as well and could be a good option to have a place for few months while getting used to the place and find a job then move to a better or closer area. Just don't sign a year lease without seeing where you will live first. Good luck.
