Just moved into my new home in Pineville this past weekend, and the traffic on the ride home from uptown (South Tryon and 3rd) has gone much worse than the dry runs I did a month earlier!

House is about two minutes away from the Johnson Road exit off 485. Can anyone suggest a better route than 485 or South Blvd? I've found 485 to be the slightly better of the two, but it's still brutal. Would I be better off trying Park or Providence to Sharon?

Thanks!

Are you inside 485 towards 51 or outside 485 towards Ballantyne Commons Pkwy?

You should check out the Lynx. I always take that to uptown Charlotte if I'm heading to a meeting/conference. The 485 exit is right at Pineville. It's about a 25-35 min commute.

Side streets will sometimes move faster, but I doubt they will get you home quicker. Traffic usually gets better when school is out.

Hopefully your experience can be a lesson to the posters who come on here and choose not to listen to us about the traffic in S. Charlotte!

I work Uptown - N. Tryon - I live in Stonecrest/Ballantyne area - I started using Providence Road - much faster than 77 to 485. I take Providence now to and from work.

+2 or 3 to Park Road. No brainer. All the wat up to East. Left on East. Cross tracks and make a right on Camden. it will soon merge into Tryon and you're good from there.

There is no way in hell you could pay me to use that section of I485 at rush hour - NONE.

Park Rd is your better bet for sure, though it won't be a peice of cake either, lol!

My experience with Providence has been hit or (big) miss. Yesterday I thought I would try Providence, and ended up at work 43min later than when I usually get there taking 77.

Really, you have to hit it at the right time. Before the school buses and local buses become too heavy on the roads. I find it much more convenient because you can always jump off on a side street. Also it's not too much stop and go traffic like 485/77. I leave around 7:00 - 7:10 in the morning.
