I am not sure if anyone can explain this one to me or not, I am just curious. Recently I headed out to Poppyseeds to get a bagel and the Stallings Police Department was pulling people over doing a License Check on Chestnut Lane at the entrance to Callonwood. Now, if you look on any map...the town of Stallings does not exist on that part of Chestnut. As a matter of fact, most of both sides of Chestnut are either in unincorporated Union County or Indian Trail. There are a few exceptions where the town of Stallings has small parcels along one side of the road.
I am just wondering....does the Stallings Police Department have the right to operate outside its jurisdiction? Is there some rule that allows this? Seemed odd to me that you see a sign that says "Indian Trail City Limits" and you are handing over your DL to a Stallings Police officer!
By the way...I didn't get in trouble so I am not mad. As I said, I'm just curious.
Union County often uses cops from other towns for traffic stops. Last year, cops from Marshville, Waxhaw, Union County and Stallings were running a big stop just south of Weddington HS on 84. They were busting speeders and those not wearing seat belts. They must have stopped a dozen people in the 30 or so minutes that I was watching them.
Interesting though that I have seen a lot of CharMeck PD in the 84, South Providence Rd, Marvin Rd and New Town Rd areas over the last couple of weeks.
