DH and I ventured out to the Palm yesterday. Overall, I was greatly disappointed and wouldn't go again. We've had so many terrific dining experiences in Charlotte and this simply wasn't one of them.
Our reservation was for 5:30 so they hadn't been open long. Wasn't crowded at all. We opted to sit on the patio - the weather was absolutely perfect for it.
On the upside, the service was terrific. Everyone was friendly and accommodating.
But simply put, the meal itself didn't meet my expectations. My steak was overcooked, I'd asked for medium and it came to me pretty close to well done. The lump crab cream was mediocre at best.
Now, my husband's crab cakes were amongst the best I've ever tasted (as long as you're not comparing it to crab cakes had in Maryland). He really liked his creamed spinach too.
My key lime pie was too sweet for me to enjoy.
I wondered afterwards if we should've tried the lobster for 2. That might have been more satisfying. But I don't think I'd even give it another shot. I think for the price, there are far better options. The hype surrounding it really surprises me.
I don't know why you wouldn't have sent your steak back? The Palm prides itself on its customer service. Surely they would have quickly accomodated your request. Next time, don't be afraid to speak up. It's an expensive place and you should receive the best service and food possible.
You're right. I SHOULD have sent it back. I'd already sent my mixed green salad back and they were very nice about it. I wasn't afraid, just VERY hungry. Seriously.
Really wished we'd opted for the lobster for 2. Might have walked away with a very different opinion.
I agree. I have occasionally asked for an overdone (IMO) steak to be returned and aonother bought to me.
As for the rest, it seems that you taste may differ from those of the restuarant. I refer here specificall to the key lim pie whaere (again, IMO) the amount of sugar present is rally a very personal thing.
I am not throwing rocks, I just think that food tastes vary.
I wholeheartedly agree that food tastes vary! The Palm simply wasn't my cup of tea. I see lots fo comments on various dining experiences here so I figured I'd share mine.

I went a couple years ago via a gift certificate, and although the experience was fine, I wasn't blown away by the food. For what it costs I expected better, but what I got was about what I'd expect from Outback, for a quarter of the price. The caesar salad was really good though.
My favorite steakhouse is still Sullivan's. It's the only one I've been to that's been completely consistent.

Funny you mention Sullivan's because my wife and I tried them on Saturday night and we both left completely underwhelmed. Service was terrible, atmosphere was way too loud and I've had better filets at Texas Roadhouse.

Obviously there are few people who agree with our negative attitudes towards the respective restaurants, or they'd go out of business.
FWIW, if I go to Sullivan's I generally get prime rib. I really like theirs, and their wedge too. And who gets a filet at TR??
The last two best steaks I've had, outside of those I cooked for myself, were at Outback (Huntersville) and Ruth's Chris (Southpark). A little further down, though still pretty good, was one at O'Charleys (University).
