I'll be visiting Charlotte with my Wife & folks in a good week. We're planning on doing a couple of new things this visit around, and would appreciate any advice on the below questions:
1) We're planning on visiting a museum (Mint Museum) or two during evening / night hours, to take advantage of discounted pricing. Thing is, parking facilities require that we walk a couple of blocks (from the parking facility to the museum), in a part of downtown that's a little desolate. Any issues regarding crime downtown in the museum district?
2) The car we're using has an EZ-Pass tag affixed to it, with heavy duty velcro strips. I know that thieves will break into a car, if a car has suction cup marks on the windshield. Anything heard about thieves ripping off EZ-Pass tags, or can I keep the velcro strips on the windshield?
Thanks in advance for any helpful suggestions! I'd rather be a little precautions on my vacation, and play it safe, than to have my car broken into.

hard to answer #2....since there aren't bridges/tunnels 'round here, thieves may not even know what it is lol. when I first moved down from NJ I had this conversation about carrying cash around. I said I always have cash, just in case I get caught at a bridge/tunnel. I got a funny look from people.
Where the museums are isn't desolate at all, especially on the evenings the museum is open later. As anywhere, be aware of what's around you, walking in a group is better than walking alone, etc. - but you should be fine! There is a lot connected to the museums, and parking meters on the street close to the museum; if you'd feel better parking right there, it's available.
