HUNTERSVILLE - An emergency was declared at the McGuire nuclear plant in Huntersville early Sunday morning after a security breach, according to a report from Duke Energy.
The report states that security saw someone climb over a fence into an unauthorized area around 3:30 a.m. on January 1.
Disconcerting for sure... I have no clue how someone could come up with any logic to being somewhere like that at that hour, on a night any reasonable person would think the security is the most lax.
Put an ankle bracelet on that punk, monitor calls, emails, texts, and bug his home for 18months. I mean heck, isn't that all legal now for the govt to do?
I wonder if they are going to tighten up security after this breach?
I doubt it. The security setup performed as it is supposed to perform.
Security at a nuclear plant is layered. Hoping a perimeter fence is like completing level 1-1 of Angry Birds. There are still numerous security systems in place - some apparent, and some very discreet - before an unauthorized person might get anywhere close to strategic areas of the plant.
Apparently the subject who trespassed at McGuire has never taken a look at the weaponry some of the security people carry at the plant. He's lucky he ended up not getting hurt pulling his stunt during the middle of the night.

I just wonder what on earth was his reason for doing it. I would be afraid someone would assume I was a terrorist and shoot me.
And yes, unfortunately, the gubment can do all kinds of things. It used to not bother me but lately, it has been on my mind more that the Patriot Act makes it way too easy to bypass civil rights. I could see it right after 9/11 but . . . not so sure I feel good about the erosion of our civil rights 10 years later.

You are right - it did work so I guess that is a good thing.
And I agree - the kid is lucky someone didn't fire at him. I guess the guys w/ guns aren't likely to over-react.
They could label him a terrorist, turn him over to the military and detain him indefinitely without access to legal representation.
If they decided he is a "civilian combatant" (isn't that the term?), he would be tossed in the brink somewhere. Very scary. I bet his parents are in shock. Just think how awful it would be to know how close your son came to being shot or having the CIA, FBI, SS - whomever is in charge of that stuff - come down on him. Dang.
