Anyone have an opinion about Chantilly? Anything there that might meet the OP's needs? I've been doing our own home search, but don't live there yet, so you would know better than I, but it seems like it has lots of architecture from the era she's looking for, and seems like a very charming area.
If it is illegal for real estate agents who work with the general public, I think that it should be off limits in a public forum.
Real estate agents are in business. Forum posters are not. We're just sharing opinions and experiences.

Imagine reading a subject line such as 'Hispanic looking for latino-friendly neighborhood' or 'Caucasian in search of non-diverse area' - things like that are exactly what continue to perpetuate the very stereotypes and prejudices behind racism.
The reality is that many of us want to be near our own kind, however we choose to define that. Hiding those definitions doesn't help anyone. A person isn't going to move into an area without knowing the demographics of that area, so why not get that out into the open right away? OP made no mention of her race after the title, so maybe it's not that important to her. Maybe it is, and she assumed we'd take that into consideration. Whichever it is, it's her right to have that attitude.
Pretending the stereotypes, prejudices, or even just simple differences aren't important won't make them go away. We need to face them, and go from there.
I guess I'll take the blue pill and stay in the dream world then. Why don't we just start a thread that asks everyone on the forum what ethnicity they are and where they live so that we can all choose and decide where we'd like to live accordingly?

As I said . . . we have pretty much exhausted this topic on threads in past years. I don't think it is anyone's intention (neither the OP's or the respondents to the thread) to "steer" someone to particular neighborhoods out of the desire to discriminate unfairly. And that really is the bottom line.

I think anifani821, soccermama, and vmaxnc have hit the nail on the head with their responses. I originally intended to include questions about dating/nightlife in my post (and would have intentionally included "Black" in such a post), but decided to stick to the topic of housing without thinking to change the thread's title. While the inclusion of "Black" in my original post was included for reasons others than just finding a place to live, I would not have had a problem with including it even if I had intended to limit my post to housing options, for reasons that both soccermama, anifani821, and vmaxnc have pointed out.
QCM5, I do appreciate you taking the time to respond. I must say, though, that I would not liken the phrase "Young Black Professional Relocating...Best Neighnorhoods" to "Caucasian in search of non-diverse area."

Reason: Left out detail
Chantilly, Elizabeth, Plaza Midwood and, as I said, Dilworth. I'm sure there are converted houses that have apartments available. They're all charming neighborhoods that should give you what you're looking for.
Guys, this thread is not a debate about race or a racist type thread nor the intent jgirl86 wanted.
She would like relocation advice discuss in the OP (original post).
Thanks

Thanks Anifani; well said. If I had seen yours first, I might not have bothered with my clumsy answer!
Your answer was wonderful and from the heart.
Jgirl86 . . . let us know if you don't have luck with the mentioned areas. I am not sure how to go about actually locating whatever apartments would be available in Chantilly, Dilworth, Plaza Midworth, etc unless you have the name of management companies (and I don't). Maybe others can give you some tips on how to actually locate those apartments, especially if the LL does not have them managed by a property management company.
I know it isn't really what you wanted, but you might consider some of the condos that could be for rent right in downtown Charlotte, too. Upscale and close to night life as well as work. :-)

I second these areas, especially Chantilly and Elizabeth, but it's difficult to actually locate the property managers of such properties that OP is wanting. I've seen the converted house/apartment's but would not know how to steer someone toward their management.
Are there still converted apartment/houses on Kings Road, or have all of those been turned back into McMansions.
