I bet most of the population in Lancaster County lives in that Charlotte Cluster in the northern part of the county

If Charlotte gains additional MSA counties, it could catapult its MSA over 2 million. Gaining Iredell alone will put the Charlotte MSA just shy of the 2 million person mark.

Rowan and Cabarrus will go into a metropolitan area as a unit since Concord and Salisbury are in the same urbanized area. The Charlotte metro area will either lose Cabarrus County (possible) or gain Rowan County (more likyly, I think).

It would absolutely ridiculous if it lost Cabarrus County.

According to the text link, Concord is still lnked to Charlotte. I think that Iredell & Lincoln will enter the MSA. Cleveland is up for grabs. That will depend on how many people in Shelby commute to Gastonia.

No way Concord becomes its own MSA. You can see the vast number of people in Cabarrus commuting to/from Charlotte everyday in the I-85 traffic backup.

No way an adjoining county like Cabarrus gets lopped off the MSA. But I can see Rowan going from a CSA county to an MSA county. Iredell and Lancaster too (which used to be in the MSA).

I was wrong, all of Cleveland County is in the metro. I saw that Shelby was assigned to Gastonia, but missed the word micro. If they can get employment stabilized in Shelby, that might bring Rutherford County into the CSA, next time.
