I don't think the state should be involved in trying to police phone usage inside cars. It's another nanny state overreach. I figure this is a self correcting phenomenon. I say it's better to let natural selection handle it.

Only problem is people learning the hard way that texting and playing with the cell phone can kill you end up killing others during this learning experience.

True, but I bet they wouldn't do it again.

As much as I disagree with government intervention in our lives, in this case of phone usage (texting) I agree.
At minimum enforce hands-free on cell phone usage in the car. Most cannot drive while keeping only one hand on the wheel and the other on the phone - these people never signal change of direction, never exit in time and then decide to cutoff everybody else, etc.

Too many innocent lives are lost due to these idiots - natural selection would work but not when we seem to have an endless supply of idiots that kill others (who just happen to be in the wrong place/time).

It would be neat that if you could take a picture of someone texting while behind the wheel and their tag number and turn it in to insurance industry data bank and then they can be made to pay more for coverage, That would be super cool. We all do have a file in the insurance DATA BANK and the insurance companies share their data just like medical providers do. We need to start taking names and holding people to the law....

True, but the state solution isn't going to save you from this either.
