I can't think of anything good to say about Foodlion. Their stores are depressing in an institutional sort of way, the staff is low class, under trained, and could care less about the customer, I don't trust their perishables & meat, and most importantly, their prices are pretty high for so little.
I feel the same about the few Food Lion stroes I have been to since moving to Charlotte. Which was a bit strange as there was one by my old place in Baltimore I shopped at that was fairly comperable to your typical HT. Huge store, fresh produce, well-stocked, clean and great employees.
Only 8th huh? Thought it would do worse. And quit bagging on Bi-lo, I like it quite a bit ;p They have lower prices than HT/Publix, but fairly comparable coupon policies, and the gas perks are minimal but nice.
The first time I was in a Food Lion was outside of Roanoke, VA, and I thought it was quite nice, and was happy to see that they had them here when me moved to town. Ooops, guess I was wrong about that one, lol.
I don't care for Food Lion in general with one exception. The one in the Candlewyck neighborhood off Providence Road is terrific. James, the manager, is about as nice a guy as you could hope to meet. The staff are friendly and helpful. While not the fanciest looking store, it serves its purpose for me on occasion.

I used to live in the Candlewyck neighborhood and I have to agree with Chuckles. Love James!! A lot of the neighborhood teens would work at the store and I was always running into one or more of my neighbors. Plus, since it was tucked just inside the neighborhood (but still visible from Providence Road) it was very walkable from my house. Sidewalks all the way!
I was referring to your use of "could care less" when the correct phrase would be "could not care less". Just having some snarky fun.
Interesting. Most Brits will say, "I could not care less.", whilst most Americans that I have met and worked with (and there were a lot) almost invariably say, "I could care less."
I dislike the latter but accept it to the point where I will say and write it when in the company of Americans.
No judgment here since I regard English as a communications tool and not an art form.

"Could care less" is simply wrong in the context in which it's normally used. I don't often make a point of it, but I was in a sarcastic mood when I posted earlier. Plus, I know people don't always consider what they're saying or writing, so they don't realize they are in error.
Food Lion is very odd as you'll have some very nice stores (IMO) and then you'll have some that are just depressing to be in. Seems they've not really spent a lot on the upkeep and remerchandising of their older boxes perhaps?
