My husband and I are taking a trip to NC to check out the Lake Norman area and the Union County area next month.

Once we determine what town we like the most, we will then start choosing areas. It seems that every house is in a subdivision. I am not used to that. I am looking for opinions on the best subdivisions are in terms of area, schools and amenities in those 2 areas. We would definitely like one with a nice pool, clubhouse, tennis courts and preferably a golf course. (Our range is in the mid-300s.) Any ideas? Also, can somebody give me a ball park amount of fees charged by the typical community?

In Union county you could go to Shannamara, Country Club Estates and Olde Sycamore (I did a quick search on MLS) in your price range. These all have golf courses.

You will have A LOT more choice if you don't need a golf course. There are plenty of public courses here so that may be the way you want to go.

Feel free to PM me if you would like any additional information.

Do you folks like Highland Park more than Olde Sycamore and Northstone?

Northstone is nice. Its a much smaller neighborhood than Highland creek. Is there anything in particular you are looking for?

OP:

I have lived in Highland Creek (99-03), Birkdale ('03-06) and have family in Northstone.

Highland Creek is large but I found the home values did not go up as quickly as the other areas in which I lived. Birkdale is a terrific location and a good family neighborhood. Northstone, although in reality is not far removed, for some reason feels like it is in the middle of nowhere. And it is difficult to get in and out of that area due to traffic and a two-lane road. These neighborhoods all have nice pools, clubhouses, activities, and amenities nearby.
