Have a recommendation? Looking for something in the South Charlotte or Indian Land Area. Not sure I want to go to a dealership. The check engine light just came on in my car. It is a Toyota with 110k miles and seems to be running fine.

Take it to Autozone they will read the code for free.
Just an FYI. I have an old (1996) Toyota. Check engine light came on and the code indicated it was the oxygen sensor. My mechanic replaced the sensor with one we got at NAPA. Light came back on in about 3 weeks. NAPA would not replace the part so I purchased another one from NAPA. A month later the check engine light came on AGAIN.
I purchased a new sensor (Toyota part) from Toyota on Independence Blvd. They guaranteed the part - said bring it back for a refund if I had a problem. My mechanic installed the Toyota sensor. Two+ years later... no check engine light.
The price was about the same at Toyota as it was at NAPA. Don't buy sensors at NAPA.

Bosch and Denso make many (most?) of the OEM sensors, and they're marked on the sensors. Often the dealer is much more expensive for the same product. Just an FYI.
O2 codes often don't require the replacement of O2 sensors. They are frequently indicative of a problem that is causing the O2 sensor to throw a code. When I installed a CAI on my car I cleaned the intake manifold and got some of the cleaner on the MAF sensor. A few miles later I got codes for 2 of the 4 O2 sensors on my car. I looked up the codes, found a thread saying that may well have been because of what I sprayed on the MAF. The CEL turned off after a few trips. No O2 replacement necessary.
I've never been but I see Compact Cars recommended often.
I have heard about Compact Cars for Honda/Acura.
Anybody knows a Charlotte area, just as good non-dealer repair shop but specialized in BMW & Audi?
A couple friends own MBV, on Old Pineville. They've been in business 20+ years and between them and their mechanics are factory trained in many brands. Tell 'em Norm sent you.
I have used Autozone in the past to find out what the engine light code meant . . . but now I just go straight to the AAA folks in Ballantyne. They are qualified, they offer excellent customer service, and if you need work done, they have specialists on site.
I took my Audi to AAA a few weeks ago. Engine light came on and I had already been to the Audi dealer 2 x about it. The Audi folks told me "not to worry" - it was a manifold problem and no rush with getting it fixed.
Well, that just didn't strike me right . . . so when it came on again, I took it over to AAA. Very reasonable charges. I was also having a problem w/ the A/C - they fixed that, as well.
I highly recommend them.
