Hello Everyone!

My husband and I will be relocating to Charlotte for a job promotion next year. As part of my research I wanted to find out from people who live in Charlotte and the vicinity where you enjoy taking fun community classes? What resources (online and/or local papers) can I find for listing a variety of adult education classes? What classes have you enjoyed taking and would recommend?

When I've lived elsewhere, I would go to the local library and find booklets that listed community classes. Everything from two hour workshops to eight week classes on a variety of subjects I enjoy: arts & crafts, dance, exercise, music, gardening, videomaking and photography, nature programs, public speaking, history, creative writing, etc. The classes were non-credit and either part of a school extension program, community center or non-profit agency.

My husband would like to know where to find classes for beginning boating and hand gun safety. I also wanted to know if there is an artist community where I can rent a table in a building to work with other artists on their creative projects and where I can learn more information about gardening in North Carolina.

Thank you!!

Eh He, Sounds like you need to be in Asheviille rather than Charlotte. No worries, there are art and dance classes here. You just have to know where to look. Check out the NoDa all arts market in the old neighborhood theater. You will find a community of local artist here.

Don't know if you are into pottery but Pottery Central is a nice place for classes. As far as dance goes I happen to be close to someone that is involved in the belly dance community. It is bigger than you may realize and they are very welcoming. If you want info PM me and I can help.

You can get all of what you're looking for at the Matthews Community Center. Indian Trail also has nice classes.
