Is all of Gastonia dicey? My husband might get a job there. Where should he commute from? We're thinking Fort Mills. He'd like to be in SC.

Just like any city-town there are areas you wouldn't want to plant feet. But overall it is ok.

Fort Mill is a nice town, and the commute is very doable. There are back roads that would make his commute much easier.

The above posters are correct. No, not every part of Gastonia is dicey -- we have a house here and have never felt unsafe. But as Chromekitty wrote, every city-town has its less savory parts, but that doesn't mean one should write off an entire city-town because of it.

Fort Mill is nice and so is Belmont. However, if the job is in Gastonia, I'd start looking there and then cast out a wider net if you don't find something you like. Logic says to keep a commute as short as possible to save time and money, but "warm fuzzies" ultimately does dictate where home feels right.

There is no reason to not look at Gastonia. Will you be needing public schools?
