Hello all,

I desparately need ideas for a Sweet Sixteen birthday party. She is an October baby. In the past we've had parties at the house - sometimes costume themed; and the last few years we took her and her friends to the Haunted Mill in Belmont. She wants to do something different. Scarowinds might be ok but a bit pricey to take a bunch of teenagers. The ideas don't have to be Halloween themed. We live just outside of Belmont.

I'm open to any suggestions. Help!

A day at a corn maze!! Bring a cake and a picnic lunch and have a blast

Historic Rural Hill

There's a groupon online for discounted tickets if you look for it.

It's hard to come up with something without knowing what she likes.

If she likes history Kings Mountain Little Theater is putting on a play about the battle that was written for them by Bob Inman. There's also a corn maze out in Shelby. Last year there was a haunted corn maze in Blacksburg that was aimed at teenagers but I haven't seen signs yet.

Maybe dinner at a fun, non-stuffy restaurant? I seem to recall a previous thread where Cowfish Grill (SouthPark) was put forward.
Rafting or zip-lining at the US National White Water Center?

A play about a battle for a 16th bday? That sounds a little morbid.

Corn maze may be a fun outing...

When I hear sweet 16 I envision something like a spa day followed by a party at a nice little restaurant

I suggested the play IF she has an interest in history. 16 year olds just might enjoy going to a play. They could go without parents & parents wouldn't have to be concerned. This will be a fairly complex play with a scene set in Philly, so not just a play about the battle.

I'm female & I think that a spa is inappropriate for 16 year olds. So see, we have different opinions.

Getting your nails done and hair done is inappropriate? Interesting.

A hair dresser would be cheaper for those things than a spa. The OP has a budget. I still wouldn't take a group of teenagers to a spa if money was no object. In the OP there was a remark that Scarowinds would be pricey for a group of teenagers. Even if the play seemed like a good idea to the OP it would still depend on how many kids would be in the group, hence suggestions of corn mazes. We don't know if the group of teenagers is all female or mixed. I don't think that hair & nails is a winner with teenage boys.

well it is 2014...lol.

I asked a coworker who has a 17 year old and she also said the spa treatment could get expensive. She suggested taking the birthday girl and a best friend or 2 to the spa and then having a nice little party for the rest of the kids.

Spa seems to be the "in" thing. My kids get invited to them all the time and they aren't even 16 yet. Complete with manis and pedis etc. One loves it, the other declines them all. lol

But if your kids are into it, spa is very fun. Or do a makeover at a salon with hair and "photo" shoot with hiring a local photographer and take pictures at a local park with fall colors. My oldest went to a party like that and had a blast. She was sent her picture with a pretty frame as her party favor.

I also like the corn maze idea.
