I am thinking about attending UNC Charlotte for graduate school and would like to know the best (safest, most affordable) area to live.
I am a single mother with two young children. My children would hopefully be in daycare/preschool when I am in class.
What, in your opinion, is the safest and most affordable area in the UNC-Charlotte area?
I would be interested in a 2 or 3 BR apartment or rented home.
I suppose "affordable" to me would be at the most $700 before utilities.
If there is an area outside of Charlotte with an easy commute, I would be interested in learning about that area as well.
Thank you.

Oh honey, I hate to break it to you but most one bedrooms cost most than $700 in Charlotte, especially in more desirable areas.
In addition, the apt market is hot which means occupancy is pretty high in most places so it can be tough to find "affordable".
Try looking at some complexes in Concord, you might luck up there.
Do you know what the average rent is in the UNC-Charlotte area? I have found only a few apartments currently available and they were between $650 and $950. I'm just not sure what keywords I should look for (other than university area, UNCC, and UNC Charlotte).
I currently live in Raleigh and the desirable apartments in this area are between $950 and $1200, so I was just making a guess for the UNC-Charlotte area.
What is the average commute time for Concord to UNCC?
Thank you.

Apartments.com > Zip 28262 & 28269 for the university area and you'll see what the rates are.
From what I see, 2 bedroom apartments tend to be in the $800-$900/mth range.

The rents are pretty much the same all over Charlotte.
I will send you a few links to apts in Concord that are close to your price range. Look for a commute of about 25-35 minutes from most of them.
Agree with Concord. Less expensive and a pretty good area. Maybe wouldn't call it an "easy" commute but as loves said shouldn't be more than about 30 minutes depending on where you are.
Stay NORTH of WT Harris and look on Mallard Creek Church Rd. Also check up tryon towards the speedway but I am not sure they will be under 700.
