Just looked up Baxter and looks great but is there a town outside of development or is it byself. Inside development looks good. Is there things in area to do also. Sorry I will look up also hut nice to hear from people who know.
Fort Mill has a one street downtown. Everything is pretty spread out. It just depends on your definition of things to do. There's also the Anne Springs Close Greenway which takes up a very large part of the east side of 77 of Fort Mill: Anne Springs Close Greenway
Plaza Midwood. But, not so great schools. Parts of Commonwealth are being rezoned to Oakhurst, a new partial magnet, and Shamrock elementary is improving some. Very walkable, and properties for around 400, though older.
I have looked at Davidson and Ballantyne complete opposite areas lol. And huntersville and birkdale. Are there commuter trains in and out of those areas......
CATS (Charlotte Area Transit) has plans to build a commuter line from center city Charlotte through Huntersville, Cornelius & Davidson. It may go all the way to Mooresville.

It's currently not funded.
There is good express bus service from Davidson to uptown during the weekdays.
Looking to relocate to Charlotte area and really want a walkable area thats affordable. Under 400 even closer to mid to low 300,000. Like to be able to have parks and cafe cute stores etc. Any chance of that in area with good school district. Dont care if outside city as long as has a sense of community and can walk and or bike to things.
The schools aren't all bad. Just like any area, there are good schools and bad schools. Charlotte has bad schools as well. I don't find it that far either. We can get to Charlotte in an hour and a half if needed. Greenville has just about anything you need as well. It's just my honest opinion as it is yours. Just wanted to give the OP an affordable option in a nice area.
Davidson is really the closest to fitting most of the criteria except for maybe the budget (because there are a lot of people that would want to live in a safe, walkable town with good schools). Just be careful when looking at RE listings because there's a pretty big area in Cabarrus County that has a Davidson address and while it isn't far to drive to Davidson, it's not really walk or bike-able.
Some of the closer-in Charlotte neighborhoods would be next but many times don't have very highly rated schools.
Maybe Belmont but not sure how easy it is to walk/bike to some of the other everyday errands and such.
Birkdale and Baxter are just walkable areas within an otherwise fairly spread out suburb.
