According to the updated article in the OP at least, it basically says he is going to take care of his sick mother. Not sure I'd call that "greener pastures."
He is Lying. He was running for a superintendent job in CA just recently. The link was in the discussion board of the Charlotte Observer article.
He applied for a superintendent position in CA at the same time as he applied with CMS and chose CMS. Is this another application or a rehash of the earlier one?

I do not want to diminish what I am sure is real concern for his mom . . . but with the relatively manageable distance involved, vacation time, family leave time, and financial resources to help out, too . . . the reason doesn't come across as being the primary reason for his resignation.
I was very happy for CMS when Morrison accepted the position, as I felt he would bring fresh insight into the mix. I am sorry to see him go but not surprised, regardless of his reasons.
You're right. I didn't have the resources to hire someone but my father could have gotten someone part-time & wouldn't. Someone had to do something.
Ani, one thing that I do know is that there is a fast burn-out rate in big districts. Philadelphia superintendents rarely stayed long. It might be a combination of burn-out & his mother.
I am totally politically incorrect and hope his mother's situation improves. But every time I see his picture why do I think Al Anon....probably the nicest dude in the world but he's got that throw-back bootleg making turn-3 at Darlington look. Quite frankly if I were CMS sup, I'd have to end the day with a long pour.
Ok, give it to me I deserve it...
I do think any School Sup working in high growth districts like Charlotte will probably succumb to the stress. I think they need to promote within, give a Charlotte die-hard a shot.
Nobody should be surprised. When someone resigns out of the blue like this, there is always something more than "their mom is sick". The principal of our school was fired last April and the story put out was she resigned because she needed to take care of her sick mom.

And to think. The idiotic school board paid (wasted) consultants $65,000 to find this man. That money would have been better spent paying a school teacher.

I think CMS is too big to manage as well, considering the problems with the state itself when it comes to education, like low teacher pay, budget cuts, as well as a few things that put CMS behind caused by pass superintendints, like larger class sizes, smaller schools, and a few other things as well.
