Before I get started, I would first like to say that this will be the last and final city of the "subway series" of threads I have done over the past 2 years now. Even though these type of threads that I've created have been very popular, I have decided not to do anymore of them. Charlotte is one of the fastest growing cities in the country. People around the country continue to choose Charlotte as a place to live. It is already the 4th largest city on the east coast. Do you think Charlotte will ever build a rapid transit subway system in the future?

Charlotte Area Transit System has the LYNX light rail system. Adding a subway would unnecessarily duplicate the need.

The present Blue Line serves areas south of Charlotte. The Blue Line is in the planning stage of being extended into the northeast areas of Charlotte. Another line, Red Line, is planned to serve areas north of Charlotte. A Silver Line is planned to serve areas southeast of Charlotte.

CityLYNX, also known as the Gold Line, is a streetcar service around Charlotte's central business district.

Population density is way too low in Charlotte for a subway to be cost efficient.

Nope. But they are expanding the light rail. There are even talks of expanding it to Mooresville at some point in the future.

Yo, gwilly!

I wouldn't say never but if it happens it would be 2 or 3 generations in the future.

I see that you've moved to the Charlotte area from the Philly/South Jersey area. I hope you're happy with where you've moved to.
I personally know a few people who have moved to Charlotte and they love it there.

It's tough to say. Atlanta is similar to Charlotte and the city has 4 subway lines. Charlotte is growing at a very fast rate and I hope it doesn't end up like Phoenix and Houston because those cities transportation needs can't keep up with the population growth. It would be such a shame for Charlotte to suffer the same fate as those other cities who didn't invest in a subway system.
