Nearly 2 years ago I moved to Central Florida for work, and now it appears I will be transferred again, this time to Charlotte. I have visited the area, and know a little of a few neighborhoods, but need help. I will be working uptown, and prefer (or have been spoiled by) little to no commute. A 1 bed condo with sunroom/loft or 2 bedroom is fine, and my budget is $900 max. No kids, so school district isn't an issue, and would prefer being around like minded young professionals.
Safety does mean something to me, so Ballantyne and South Park are on my radar from my own search. Legacy of Ballantyne in particular looks very nice at least online.
Adjusting to paying taxes and chilly weather aside, I am excited about a potential move to the greater Charlotte area
There are plenty of apartments around you can get for around 1000.
Driving to and from Ballantyne every day will cost you an extra 2-400 per month, depending on your vehicle. You'd be better served (and have more free time) spending that money on rent rather than gas.
There are quite a few brand new complexes too.
The Venue on 7th.
Elizabeth Square (there's a couple on Hawthorne right there just north of 74)
They just built some apartments at Commonwealth and Pecan that are probably not too expensive
They are about to build some new apartments a few blocks down Commonwealth from Pecan.
Morningside will be finished soon
With the glut of rentals, I expect their pricing to be competitive.
Plus there's stuff in SouthPark. Ashley Square and a million others.
If you're good with a studio or one bedroom I see no reason you can't live near uptown.

Glut? Not quite yet Most complexes in the areas our OP is interested in are at about 98% occupancy. This is starting to loosen up with the building going on but expectations are to end the year with about 95% occupancy.
And while I agree he could find something in a "studio or one bedroom" near uptown around $1000 that is not what he says he wants. He essentially wants a 2 bedroom (which is what a 1 bedroom with a sunroom or loft is priced at).
But if the OP values walkability and like-minded young professionals I wanted to expand their options -And remind them about the real costs of commuting for 1-2 hours/day.
Who knows... maybe he drives a gas guzzler and his savings could be spent upping the rental budget to get that 2 BR.
