Can someone give me an idea of commute times into uptown from neighboring suburbs: Mathews, Myers Park, Huntersville, Highland Creek, Mt. Holly, Union County, etc... I'll be going into work around 8am and leaving around 6:30pm. Thanks

8am is going to hurt you, but the 6:30pm will really help... from what I've seen - it's an intense, but short rush hour. The big caveat being the dreaded accident. With so little lanes to accommodate the traffic a lane closure is really bad.
You can open many options for where to live. By Uptown, are you talking like Exit 11 off 77?

Trade and Church
I work off of Trade and Church... right now I'm staying with family in Hickory and driving in off of I-85, get off on 16 and take the Church street exit. How long do you think the commute would be from Huntersville? And how are the high schools there? Also, I see there is a light rail now in parts of south Charlotte? Any good neighborhoods and high schools there and does anyone use the light rail to commute into uptown.. how is it?

Commute from Exit 23 to Uptown at 8am shouldn't be more than 25-30 minutes, max. Drive home at night about the same.

I live in Union County right off of 485 the Idylwild Exit (exit 49?) which is about 19 miles door to door from my house to 525 North Tryon.
When we first moved down here in 2005 it took about 35 to 40 minutes top to get to work on or around 8am.
NOW.....it takes about 50 minutes to an hour and I agree with another member in that if there is an accident then all bets are off.
I now work at Ballantyne this year which is about 25 to 30 minutes give or take to go 18 miles door to door.

Plenty of people are using the light rail! But since it only serves about a ten mile stretch of road from Pineville to uptown it is not very convenient for the whole city to use it, yet

Yes, a lot of people are using light rail. More than I initially expected on the Southeast side too.
When I drop our son off in the morning to school there are two parents that are always in a rush to make it to the Pineville light rail terminal to catch the train.
Also, a client of mine that just moved to Blakeney from Downtown uses it as well. All three that I've spoken with have stated their employer gives them incentives to boot!
