Hi everyone! My fiance and I moved here last May from Long Island, NY and am yet to find a good Greek Restaurant. Does anyone have any suggestions. We tried the one in the Arboretum and thought it was horrible!! Thanks so much for the help
If you want just a gyro....Showmars is surprisingly good!! As for a real Greek Rest......I believe there is one called the The Greek Isles on Bland St. I have never been there but, I have read some good things.
The Acropolis in the Arboretum isn't a Greek restaurant, really. I think the family that owns it is Jewish, actually. Anyway the only real Greek restaurant is Greek Isles. There are some casual places where you can get a Greek salad (Acropolis being one; there's another one called Akropolis with a K and like the poster above said, you can get some Greek stuff at Showmars.) Charlotte has many residents of Greek heritage and a very large percentage of local restaurants are Greek-owned. Most have at least a couple of Greek specialities on the menu and/or as specials. Let's see, to name a few: Jimmie's in Mint Hill, the Ole Smokehouse off Park Road, Gus' Sir Beef, Ilios Noche and Nolen Kitchen, Carolina Cafe, Pier 51, Captain Steve's, and in Matthews there are Greg's Barbecue, Tryon House, Dino's...and of course Showmars, founded by the Couchell family. I know there are tons more.

Reason: fix spellings
Showmars has some of the best Greek grilled chicken ever. But not all locations serve it. It's owned by the Couchells, who are Greek Americans, along with managing partners. Not exactly a franchise deal, but...anyway I think all the partners are Greek-Americans too.
I wonder what makes a restaurant "Greek?" Clucker's does have some good dishes but I think they're a Middle-Eastern restaurant. I like the Acropolis' Greek salad, but it's not a Greek place either.
that was a pretty good greek restaurant in south fl
No, but at Greek Isles, you will get an Opa when you order the saganaki, which is prepared at your table.
