South Park has more super rich with some middle class mixed in. It's closer to the city which brings positives and negatives. Ballantyne is more homogenous in terms of being mainly upper class. A bit further from the city.

Others can probably speak better to which area is better for single empty nesters. There's other towns closer to the city that people will probably recommend. I'd also recommend looking at downtown Matthews. Kind of has a college town without the college feel to it.

Do you have any data to support your first paragraph? I'm not challenging you - just curious to know how you support those statements. Or is that just what you believe to be true?

No data...just the general feeling from living in one and working in the other.

Southpark is not super rich. It's not NY, London, LA, or SF. You don't see Rolls Royces and Ferraris.

Nowhere in Charlotte is like that.

Thank goodness! Charlotte does not want to be like NY, London, LA or SF...

I prefer Southpark to Ballantyne and I work from home. I think it just depends on your preferences. I do have to travel around the city occasionally so being central is better for me. I am also used to the stores, restaurants, etc. in this area. I don't think you can wrong with either one. Goog luck!

Maybe I should rephrase. On a scale of 0 (very poor) to 7 (Highlanders) to 8 (Lexus/BMW) to 9 (Land Rovers) to 10 (Rolls Royce), South Park has a varied mix of 3s to 9s. Ballantyne has a less diverse mix of ~6-8s. Very few 10s at either place.

between the 2, Southpark would be my option, not even close.

However higher on my list would be: Dilworth or Myers Park

Another way to look at it besides cars:

SouthPark area (south or Runnymede/Woodlawn, north of Colony/Carmel) has had 32 homes sell for above $1.5 million in the last 12 months. There are an additional 62 homes that sold for over $1.5 million in nearby Myers Park and Eastover. SouthPark area has had 24 single family homes sell for less than $300k in the last 12 months (almost all at Park/Arrowood).

Ballantyne has had 4 homes sell for above $1.5 million in the last 12 months. There are an additional 9 that sold for over $1.5 million in adjacent Waxhaw and Weddington. Ballantyne has had over 225 single family homes sell for less than $300k in the last 12 months.
