Per the NAR:
"A buyer who wants a home in the Abraham Lincoln school district is providing an objective criterion for a home search. An agent can clearly identify and find housing in that school district. On the other hand, a buyer wanting a home in a “good school district” is unclear about what he or she wants. Is it the school with the best football team, the most AP students, the newest facility, or something else? Agents attempting to choose homes based on this kind of request substitute their own judgment for the buyer’s regarding what makes a school good."
I don't have enough hair left on my head to begin splitting them with ya, so I'll just leave it as they asked about getting their son established in a good school. I offered a recommendation, feel free to take it or leave it, as I don't ever push my clients to make decisions based on my preferences or biases, I just give generalized advice and encourage them to look on their own to make detailed decisions.
But, in an effort to further objectively assist OP, I'd recommend they check out Moderator cut: link removed, competitor site or https://www.greatschools.org/ both of which offer fairly useful tools to evaluate performance and fit.
