Hope that Light Rail expands in Charlotte...I support Light Rail 1000%. And for all the idiots that ride without a ticket...your $50 fine is coming one day. You can only do wrong for so long and not get caught. The next line is gonna go thru NODA (yea) and up toward University City...ending at University City Blvd & I-485 (there will be a park and ride lot there)...or so they say.

The terminus is still in question, but the overall direction of the route is as you stated. Apparently a developer has shown up on scene and started trying to influence the end section of the rail (a struggle between them and UNCC).

I know. It would make sense to have a large Park-n-Ride at University City Blvd (Hwy 49) & I-485...easy access to alot of people and right near I-485.
Ummmmm....I think the streetcar is running from Eastland Mall to the airport because they need an east/west transportation line. Nowhere has CATS proposed long term parking at the mall for airport use.
You dont end a "sad state of affairs" by denying things like streetcars and mass transit. In fact, it is quite possible that a streetcar line could help to revitalize that long neglected area.
Okay, so no long-term parking, but I'm pretty sure you have to leave your car to ride a streetcar. Want to ride the streetcar and keave your car there? You first. The idea of replacing windows and belongings is not appealing to me. Just look up the numbers for vehicle break-ins and similar crimes. That area needs to be improved before you start asking people to park and ride.

Just my opinion.
The street car is more of a short distance mechanism...similar to (if not the same as) the Gold Rush. The people who ride it either live or work in the area and use it to get around rather than a car. This plan just sort of stretches the street car's boundaries and lets you "walk" a whole lot further than the Gold Rush currently does.
I know, I know...who wants to go to Eastland...or better yet, who wants to make a direct pipeline for thugs in that area to come to downtown. I'll admit that it is risky, but I tend to agree with the notion that you don't just abandon an area. Encourage redevelopment, drive property values up, raise awareness in the area, stick some enforcement on it, and you've got a recipe for potential success in my opinion.

Here's a look at the proposed streetcars:

Now, I know that the idea of "Park and Ride" from Eastland Mall is probably not high on most people's lists of smart ideas. But, there are plenty of folks in that area who would be within walking distance of the proposed line. Additionally, using the new development immediately adjacent to the Blue line, you can only imagine the net positive effect that the trolley would bring to the east side of Charlotte.
good one. Now, where do you find the palm trees in Charlotte???
At Eastland Mall?
