I was a little curious myself and came across this article about Sanitation Scores that was written about six months ago.
Restaurant sanitation scores | How low can they go? | Local News | News for Charlotte, North Carolina | WCNC.com | 6NEWS Extra - The Investigators (http://www.wcnc.com/6newsextra/investigators/stories/wcnc-020408-al-best_worst_restaurants_notime.8d02d6c0.html - broken link)
But was unable to find something like a point break down - something along the lines of food left out at improper temp means minus 2 points and a max available score is now a 98. If someone could find that I think it'd be at least interesting, though with a topic like this a little ignorance may be more blissful, especially if it affects a favorite place to eat.
When did they change it to 98? I've regularly seen many places over 100. One place was 103 and they said they got marked down because thier potatoe chip stand was bent/broken. Maybe it's different in different counties? We are in Stanly county.

The highest you can get anywhere in NC is 102 (100 + 2 bonus points for ServSafe). The grading is a statewide system so the report forms are the same, but each county adminsters them.
That's correct it's 2 points, thus the highest possible score is 102. I actually did a paper on about a year ago and got an A+.
