Hello, my husband and I are moving to the Charlotte area the end of September. Neither of us are familiar with the area and are planning a trip down in a few weeks to check everything out. We are in our late twenties and moving from Chicago. We are looking for a fun and safe area with restaurants, shops, bars, etc. very close by. We plan to rent at first and then buy. Does anyone have any suggestions for any great apartment buildings or specific areas we should focus on? I've heard South Charlotte but I'm a little confused by all of the different areas! Thanks so much!
Thx Cheesehead for the reply and welcome! I'm looking for a teaching position actually and my husband works from home. We are looking for a place for about 1200-1500 a month with washer/dryer, great locale, and short-term (6-12mos.) lease option. Any help would be great!
Some of the close-in neighborhoods may be a good fit for you. If you are used to living in the city in Chicago, there are a variety of areas that you may like, depending on how urban you want. Uptown itself (inside 277) is also an option, but it's definitely more expensive in there.
Dilworth, Elizabeth, Plaza Midwood, and SouthEnd are just a few neighborhoods to look into. I don't know of specific buildings that would do short-term leases, but there are many people here who know those neighborhoods very well and will be able to suggest more specifics. If you're interested in being north of town closer to Lake Norman, I think there are areas that have walkable commercial areas.
Have you applied with CMS or surrounding counties? It's hard to tell you for sure where to live since you don't have a job yet. Traffic can be a challenge here, so it's best to live close to work if you can. That said, if you have a short-term lease you can move closer to work once you have your position if need be.
Good luck!
does anyone know of an affordable place for a family of four new to the area, in need of decent schools? a nice three bedroom? clean area, near public transportation and shopping?
