It's Friday and that is often when management announces lay-offs.

Anyone know what is going on at Wachovia?

I have been hoping the lay-offs would not be here (not that I wish that on anyone, anywhere)

Just wondering what the word on the street is about what (if any) contract workers and employees will be cut here in CLT.

This is good news! I am hoping CLT is not gonna take a hit on the layoffs . . . seems most of the positions were associated w/ the mortgage division . . .

Hope this means everyone is gonna have a great weekend!

From what I heard today, about 1,000 of the contract workers...all from their First Place agency have been laid off here in Charlotte...the mortgage reorganization has not yet been announced.

Ouch. That is not good news. Wonder how many total contract workers Wachovia actually has?

The mortgage re-org - that is what I have specifically been wondering about - how that will affect CLT in particular.

I have been surfing the web to see if anyone is talking about it but so far, not finding much at all but speculation.

Does anyone know where the majority of the mortgage division is located? Did Wachovia ever transfer operations for mortgages to it's Golden West locations in California?

From link below:

Embattled consumer bank Wachovia has hired investment bank Goldman Sachs to help it evaluate its consumer loan portfolio, according to a report from the Associated Press.

A Wachovia spokesperson told the AP that Goldman will help it analyze the portfolio and “evaluate various alternatives.”

InsideARM: Wachovia Hires Goldman Sachs for Loan Portfolio Advice

On a blog I read today, someone referred to Wachovia's new CEO as "Gordon Gecko" and said - brace for the slice and dice . . . cause Wachovia was on the chopping block.

So who will the suitor be? Speculation all around . . . seems people are still clinging to the JPMorgan scenario . . . despite the 10% threshold for deposits. The word is - Congress would gladly sign off on that deal to keep foreign investors out. Hmmmmm.

Still blessed to have a job...and NO more commuting to Ballantyne. I now work out of my home and I am back Uptown and could not be happier. I take it day by day and have no worries. Life will go on with or without Wachovia.
