We had a Korean hardwood floor installer. I asked him where he went for good Korean food, because we couldn't find any around here. His response.. "Atlanta"
We'll I guess its to be expected with such a small Asian population in Charlotte. We may try Kyoto but we've been burned too many times on supposedly good Asian restuarants.

Don't know if you have noticed, but 80 percent of the employees in Chinese restaurants are Koreans. They can't open Korean restaurants because there are too many Chinese restaurants. Quite a dilema
It is definately not due to any shortage of Asians. I suppose the majority have found better jobs than food service.
I kept seeing this thread pop up a couple of days ago and couldn't figure out why? I hadn't tried Korean food and didn't know what all the hype was about, but just sort of assumed it was like Chinese or Japanese entrees...
I'm out of town this week and was walking around just looking for a place to try out and came across a Korean place and just had to try it out. Along with that wanted to try out the Bulgoki cuz I kept seeing that get mentioned...and I gotta say - I understand now what all the hype was about, it was amazing and quite different than say a hibachi steak or something along those lines...just wanted to say thanks for the tip. Next step is trying out the place in Charlotte.
Digging this up to post that I found a great Korean restaurant in Charlotte after asking around in some Korean markets. Don't be turned off by its outside appearance, it looks like a generic Chinese takeout place (complete with drive-through!) And don't be turned off by the takeout Chinese menu - ask for the Korean menu or look at the pictures on the specials board up front by the door. Very traditional Korean for very reasonable prices. They have 3 menus, an Americanized-Chinese menu, a Korean menu with pictures in English, and a Korean text-only menu. Make sure you ask for the Korean menu.

It's quickly become one of my favorite places to eat out.
Kojan, formerly known as Kyoto, has shut down... heavy sigh. They had moved to Matthews and offered a wonderful buffet on Saturdays. I am not as impressed with Cho-Won in comparison to Kojan. Are there any other Korean restaurants to try in the Charlotte area?
There's a newish Korean restaurant inside the Super G Market on Independence. It's all the way in the back. I haven't tried it yet but have heard very good things about it.
I love Korean food and would love to find a good Korean restaurant in Charlotte. Anybody know of one? I heard recently of one near the Buster Boyd Bridge.
BarbJ, on your computer go to "urban spoon.com". Once there you can go to Charlotte and get feedback on all area restaurants. And, you will be able to comment once you visit the place. When you see the type of restaurant, simply click on "other" and all etnicities will be listed. Have fun, I use it all the time no matter what city I am visiting.

He was right, Atlanta's Korean community is massive and tons and tons of places to eat.
