I got my daughter into Lincoln Charter last December upon moving to NC. But it was the high school. They have spots open in the high school so we were lucky and got her right in. I do know that they have a bus from that old theater in Cornelius over in Kenton Place, I think it is called. I know many people who car pool. My daughter drives herself so that has worked out great for her. It has been a good experience for my daughter. Very good.

You may also want to look into Charlotte Secondary School on Monroe Rd. It's in Charlotte, near Matthews. The school started last year with 80 6th graders and will add a new 6th grade this year (so it will be 6th and 7th grades). That's where my daughter goes and it is a wonderful program. The classes are small and it is very personal with lots of interesting projects and interdisciplinary studies.

Find out more at Charlotte Secondary School. Our dynamic principal, Jeremy Spielman, will love to tell you more about it if you call the school.

To better answer your question about how kids get to charter schools, at our school a few kids ride the city bus but most have carpools. There is an open house scheduled in a week or two when parents will have the opportunity to talk about carpools with other families in their area. In addition, the school keeps a database that can be sorted by zip code to help people find possible matches. Last year there were several times when I got emails from the PTSA looking for someone to help fill a carpool need. So there is a lot of effort to make sure that everyone gets the help they need.
