Vegetable prices in supermarkets may be going up (Charlotte: live in, farmers market)

There were bad storms in South Jersey on Sunday. Lots of hail did massive crop damage in 5 counties.

I just saw a report on it on the local news. They were saying that most of the farmers affected by this take at least some of their produce to market in Vineland where it is sold to retailers from Maine to Florida. The local report said that the losses are so significant that prices may be affected up & down the east coast.

Now might be a good time to check out the farmers markets in the Charlotte area.

I guess it just seems odd to me that there would be much importing from Jersey to local super markets. What would Jersey provide that is not already provided in this region.

They aready have. This is a year for inflation.

Sunny, most of South Jersey is small towns & small farms. If the produce is not marked local we don't usually know where it comes from. I didn't post anything until I heard that the produce is sold to retailers from Maine to Florida & may raise prices along the east coast.

I live in the 'burbs & didn't realize how far Jersey produce travels.
