Talking to co-workers they said this happened during Katrina here which I thought was odd because nothing changed in NY as far as people freaking out about running out of gas and the stations taking advantage of the public as a result. This is ridiculous and I have never in my life experienced such paranoia. Have people not realized by now that in todays day and age in this country we have experienced many hurricanes and we have never ran dry due to it? Hope any one who ran out to get fuel because they were paranoid like paying over 4.50 a gallon because god only knows if and when it will come back down to where it was before this nonsense not to mention all the businesses who will suffer in the process because no one will be going out to spend money on luxury things like eating out as much. Just another step to the downfall of this country. Gotta love it!

Son called from Boone . . gas at $4.19. One of his buds called him from Lenoir - gas at $4.90. Don't know if it stayed at $4.90 or what. Son has to drive to Wilmington as his best friend is being deployed to Iraq and this was their last weekend together - all the guys are gathering in Wilmington. So this will be a very expensive trip.

Anyone else seeing gas at $4.90????? Or was this just someone gouging the public????

Sounds like price gouging based on BS whipped up by the media.

That is what I thought. DS was really panicked b/c of how much it was going to cost him to make a round trip from Boone to Wilmington. I hope he had more luck w/ gas prices elsewhere. I don't see how anyone can justify a jump in prices like that overnite. Ridiculous.

My dad is driving down from PA and I just called his cell phone to tell him to gas up before he gets to NC. Of course he had no idea what was going on here and if he has to pay over $4.00 or wait in a gas line that will the ONLY topic of conversation for the entire LONG weekend. He thinks everyone here is nuts anyway....and this gas thing isn't really helping.

OT....On a good note....he is bringing me some scrapple!!

Long Island is at 3.57 and no one there is panicking or fearing the end of fuel as we know it. This is the most absurd thing I have ever experienced in my life. This is just ridiculous and just a way for the stations to take advantage of the consumer.

Yeah, this is ridiculous. As far as I can tell, no other areas of the country are jacking prices up like we are seeing here today. For goodness sake, the Breaking News alert on CNN was that the price of oil dropped below $100/barrel! And we're paying over $4.00/gallon today. What does that say about the residents of Charlotte? Gas by my office near the airport is $4.29 this afternoon. It was $3.64 yesterday.
