My husband and I are relocating to Charlotte and will be living in the Palisades. Has there been any home invasions in this area? I ask because my husband travels alot and I have two small children. We plan on getting an alarm system but I don't know if that is enough any more. I would like to believe that the crime is centrally located to a certain area and that I should have no reason to worry. Thanks for your honest feedback!

I have not heard of a single home invasion in that neighborhood. There have been some problems in neighborhoods further toward Charlotte off of hwy 49, but not close to the Palisades. We really don't have a huge amount of home invasions in Charlotte anyway. And when they do happen it is usually not random - a home is targeted because it is believed there are drugs there. More prevalant of a problem is home break-ins when folks aren't home.

We don't let our thugs go that far out of town. Just kidding.
It would be daunting to have small children and have the man of the house gone a lot. The security system is good. Also, get to know your neighbors, don't let it look like you're the only one home and get a dog (if you don't already have one). Charlotte is a city, there's crime. We're all going to work together to not let ourselves be victims!
Relax, you're in a great area. Plus, you're a mom. You're not going to let anything happen to your family.

I think security is pretty tight in The Palisades. DH and I were driving around looking at houses about a year ago and we were stopped by security within about 5 minutes and asked to leave.

I've not heard of any home invasions in the Palisades either. There have been a higher-than-normal amount of stolen vehicles in the Steele Creek area recently.

The honest truth is that you could be a victim anywhere, anytime. Get a dog that sounds mean, or is mean when needed. Or get a gun and learn how to use it. Both can be tools for your safety with the right mindset. The alarm system is fine, too.

We moved into the Palisades over two years ago. I also travel quite a bit, and my wife and two kids are often by themselves so area safety was a big concern for me. My wife says she has never really felt unsafe here. Every house in the Palisades is built with a monitored security system. Also, we have roving security 24/7/365. Of course things could happen anywhere, but when we were shopping we really couldn't find an area with more security or more amenities.

Crime is an issue in Charlotte, for sure, but the Palisades is a very nice community. If you can't be safe there, then all is lost.
