Yep, sorry for the slip. Was the "announcement" last night a warning or watch for Union County?

Confusing, isn't it?

Apparently, the NWS issued a tornado watch instead of a warning Tuesday afternoon for Union County.

Union County (2/13/07)
http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/watch/ww0024.html

Tornado Watch - Tornadoes are possible. Remain alert for approaching storms. Watch the sky and stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio, commercial radio, or television for information.

Tornado Warning - A tornado has been sighted or indicated by weather radar. Take shelter immediately.

National Weather Service (NWS)

This is totally backwards...

let me say, that the weather here in Charlotte is incredibly mild and bland. Especially for severe weather. Of course i came from the lower ends of Tornado alley and they were common place.

It was for a watch - conditions favorable. I figured you were having a "senior moment" 'cause you are usually way on the mark!

Tornadoes do happen in NC. They are reported more frequently now because better radar detection and with the ever increasing population, more and more people are affected by them.

If memory serves me correctly, we seem to have most in the spring (obviously) particulary early spring, and another bout in the fall.

I remember that a tornado did touch down in Concord sometime last year. March I think...

That's pretty much a few miles from us as the sparrow flies. (We can get to Concord Mills Mall in about 7 minutes from our place.)
