We have 4 healthy athetic children (ages 14, 11, 9, 7), and we are trying to find a part of town with a good school system, especially a high school with a good basketball program. We visited the high schools in the Cabbarrus Co., and my wife was impressed with Concord HS staff. After learning that Concord HS would not be part of the upcoming redistricting next year, she ruled out the other High Schools in the County. However, it appears that Corcord HS district (view map http://www.cabarruscounty.us/GIS/docs/HighSchools.pdf (broken link) ), is mostly very old houses on hills, with sprinkles of $300k-400K houses here and there. We have been able to find only one place that is somewhat acceptabe is Hunter's Point development. My wife rathers this far-from ideal location by both of us, than a place with an inferior high school. Can some one point us out to either another good HS discrict, or to a more suitable location for all the children in Corcord HS discrict? Our price range is 250-275K, and I work uptown Charlotte.

You could find a nice home in the Blakeney area in that price range and the children would be in the district for the new Ardrey Kell High School in South Charlotte. I can send you a website to view listings in the area in your price range.

Go to charlotte.com, look to the left at "local new" and click "Cabarrus". In the sports section on the right there's a nice article on the Concord HS girls basketball team on how they went from winless to being in the state playoffs.

Thank you all for your input. My wife is not comfortable with the idea of a brand new HS. She likes the school to be established at least a few years. However, we will still check out these areas you all mentioned. Thank you Friendnc! That's exactly why we are trying to find a place in Concord first.

Concord is a great area. You should be fine almost anywhere on that side of town. Let me know if you need a guide
