I've seen some homes by M/I Homes that seem very inexpensice considering the size of the home (3200 sq. ft $223.900). Has anyone had any experience with them. I'm looking to move from Miami. Please help! Thanks

I do not believe you can go wrong with them. We are seriously thinking about buying one of there homes this year.

I'm closing next week on my MI home. Coming from NY to North Carolina was a bit of an adjustment, but in all the home building process was pretty smooth. Originally, we were told that the process would take 4 months, it ended up being 8 (mainly because we enlarged two rooms and it delayed the start of building, which we weren't told.) Other than that, they are very happy to help and returned phone calls and e mails quickly.
Good luck!!!

We have an MI home that was built in Northern Virginia in 1996. Basically, we are happy with the home. We really like the design, and the home has held up pretty well, although we had a large number of settlement cracks in year #5 (none since then). We have a large number of "nail pops" too, which don;t really bother me but indicate dubious construction. The biggest problem has been with the windows. Many of the large windows have begun "streaking" between the panes. We have had to replace four so far, and there are a few smaller windows that will be need to be replaced before we sell the house. The neighbors also have reported problems with windows leaking. Bottom line: I would by MI again. Important: I don't know if that means 2007 homes built in NC will have the same story.

Unfortuantely homes settle which can cause nail pops etc. This type of thing happens on all new homes at some point.

Default Nail pops

As a real estate expert, maybe you can give us some advice on what to do about the nail pops. We were planning to paint the interior over the next few years. There are nail pops all over the house. Should we simply pound then back into place, or is this something only the painter's should do? What will prevent them from simply popping back out again?

I would let the painters handle it. There is not much you can do IMO as the house settles there will be nail pops. After a few years it should settle down.
