You know, I don't like to disparage anyone who puts in an honest day's work. Over the years there are many, MANY jobs that have gotten easier because of technology. Maybe it would make you feel better to have a crew of guys out there trudging through the summer heat, dragging your nasty trash to the truck just so you feel like they are really earning their pay but most people are probably fine that it is automated now.

Damn right I would. It would put more people to work. Simple fact is it saves the city money, and that's why they do it.

What? I don't think hiring unnecessary workers is what it's going to take to fix unemployment. If it worked that way they could hire a second guy to serve as co-driver for the automated trash truck. They could hire a third guy to supervise the driver and co-driver of the automated truck. Why not have 3 lazy guys riding around in the truck all day? Same difference as hiring an unnecessary crew to work on an automated trash truck.
Hey, The city could hire people to move papers around in filing cabinets all day, dig ditches and fill them in again, etc. There's no reason we should have high unemployment when there is busy work to be done.

Saving the city money means (or SHOULD mean) that residents have more money in their pockets to stimulate the economy, hire real, needed workers, etc.

Sorry, I live in a townhouse community with an alley (where all the trashcans are). No way am I going to tape an envelope to the lid of my trashcan hours before the trash pickup will be made and "hope for the best".
