From the local to the national level, Government is too big, too complicated, and too expensive.

"The government that governs least, governs best."
-Thomas Jefferson

"When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty."
-Thomas Jefferson

"A government big enough to give you everything you desire, is strong enough to take away everything you have."
-Thomas Jefferson

How about we finally split CMS into smaller more manageable units?
Stop running buses 100K+ miles every day - a monstrous cost that adds absolutely zero to educating the child.

Couldn't have said it better.

BINGO.

This is definitely just as true locally as it is nationally. Too bad our current trend toward socialist agendas will only continue to grow our government

CMS is just one example of this - so top heavy with administrators that it reminds me of the 9 months pregnant lady who can't even see her feet

Cut the middle school sports down some and let them play jv with the high school.
Closing 1/2 of the library's is a joke. What do people do when they get layed off and have no money???? They may want to go to the library.

New Arena, NASCAR Hall A Fame, Trolley system, the light rail, Ugly Art for the Light Rail, White Water Center, and I could go on and on. Schools, Law Enforcement, Libraries, Social Services, Park and Rec are important, but cuts have to come from somewhere. I hate see anyone loose their job. I have never seen such scary times! I think every one is very nervous about their economic future.

I know, maybe we turn the lights out on I-277 again. I thought it was ironic that Mayor Pat worked for Duke Power and couldn't get the lights on around the main interstate around uptown.

start from the top down.......

The fat cats of this city can afford to take a pay cut. While they may hold a title it is those
who are underneath them on the totem pole that do the grunt work. It is those people who
put things together and do their best to hold them there.

I am not for cutting all of the salaries of *administration*. Those that work under that title get paid peanuts in Char-Meck, with the exceptions being the Assistants to high profilers such as Gorman.

Anyone earning over 100K 15% paycut any over 150K 25% paycut.

That's just for starters.

Find any department that was created in the last 10 years when times were good and consider eliminating it. Yes I know this includes parent university and other good ideas - but this is an emergency and we lived without them before, so we can again for a while. It would also be great if they would just halt all school construction projects - wish this would free up money for the day to day expenses until times get better, but I know that's not how it works.
