I hear you. Its funny, i hear everything from its tolerable to it is completely intolerable in summer. Guess I will just find out for myself.
I know! I was thinking the same thing. I don't see people staying "locked up" indoors in the summer, just the opposite. Neither do we. Everywhere we go (parks, theme/water park, lakes, ect), it's fun and lively. Our neighborhood's hopping in the summer months.

I currently live in Phoenix, where it reached 115 degrees last summer, and it does not usually drop below 100 degrees (even at night) for weeks at a time during every summer. Even with humidity, you cannot possibly argue that it's hotter in Charlotte than it is here. In the summer, Phoenicians (yeah, that's what we're called here...silly, I know) still go outside, we still walk our dogs around the neighborhood, we still leave our cars out in the sun (with the windows cracked and a good, working a/c, hopefully), we can still function... ....only we try to do these things in relatively short sessions at a time. I'm sure that as long as you have a pool or a/c nearby, you'll be more than fine during the summer in NC.
I just like to look at it this way...would I rather live somewhere where I have hot weather for three or four months out of the year, and I probably need to stay indoors more than usual during the summer months (south), or would I rather live somewhere where I have freezing weather for three or four months out of the year, and I'm forced to stay inside during the winter months or drive on icy, dangerous roads, after scraping my wondshield and heating my car up for 15 minutes prior to going anywhere?
Location: Sunny Phoenix Arizona...wishing for a beach.

It's no contest for me...
BTW Phoenix last Summer was up around 120 at times, in my car 130.
The week before last here I was friggin hot in 89 degrees here. That humidity stinks when it's hot but I have to agree I'll take this weather for a shorter time then the relentless Phoenix heat.
I think it probably depends on where you are coming from. We are coming from FL where it feels like summer ALL YEAR LONG!!! You want to talk about humidity? You have not known humidity until you've lived in FL. I've lived here 18 years & my hair hasn't been straight since I moved here!(From NY) I've been in Charlotte over the summer & my husband & I both thought it was great! We were actually able to enjoy the outdoors! Because although FL is beautiful you can barely enjoy the outdoors because of the heat & the sun! Let's face it, palm trees do not provide shade!
As for me, I can't wait to get some cooler weather up in Charlotte!
You made me think of my 4th of july vacation 2 years ago in Ft. Launderdale. I got a room at a great rate and they said it was there off season . I have never been to florida and couldnt figure how a holiday week in middle of summer was a off season LOL.
OYE!
It just took the first day there to realize the spf sun block I use in carolinas is like putting motor oil in florida LOL.
I told my partner I couldnt figure how the older population chose florida as a retirement state because I didnt understand how there health could handle it. Now I know why the mountains are filled with floridians in the summer.
Beautiful state and I love the blue water I never seen water so blue unless I put calgon in the tub.

I moved to Sarasota in June of 2004 , stayed for exactly 6 weeks and moved back to Connecticut. It was soooo hot and humid, I could not stand it. I'm sure I picked the wrong 2 months to be there, and i'm sure that by October I would have loved it, but the humidity was intolerable. I remember walking out into town one night and about halfway to where i was going I was dripping with sweat. Turned around, went back home and changed. Left again and by the time I got to my destination, I was drenched again. Well, needless to say I called for my old job the next morning. I think here in Charlotte, the nights are cooler too. That is my biggest pet peeve, during the day you tolerate it. At night 75 degrees and 90 percent humidity is unreal.

There are so many places to live in this world where you would experience neither of these extremes. You don't have to choose between these two opposites, you know!
I feel sad that people think they either have to live with constant AC, hot summers and humidity, or manage through hard winters.
Unless you live in the pacific Northwest or the mountains of North Carolina, you are getting one of the 2 of these or both.
