There is a possible job opportunity in Davidson that I'm looking at. I'm a 25 year old young professional and was looking to get a sense of areas to live.
I don't like commuting (I would like to keep my commute under 25 minutes each way) , but I was looking for some suggestions of places I should look at. I am mainly looking for suggestions for areas where there is a lot to do within walking distance of where I live. I'm not a huge night life person, but some selection of bars and non-chain restaurants would be a big plus.
Should I consider living in downtown Charlotte and driving? Or are there good areas that meet what I'm looking for in Davidson or other adjoining towns?
Driving north in the morning to work on I-77 and south on I-77 in the evening is easy. You could live in Huntersville, Davidson, Cornelius, or the north half of Charlotte (near I-77) and have a 25 minute commute or less.
Nothing against the OP or anything but why do alot of people in the Charlotte area refer to themselves as a young professional? I am also 25 but I would never consider myself a young professional(even when I did have a job). What is the difference between a 25 year old young professional and just a 25 year old with a job?
I think Huntersville is exactly what you are looking for. There are several options that would literally give you the option to walk to everything you might need. One in particular is Birkdale Village. Good luck with the job!
CharlotteCharlotte - another discussion for another day (and thread).
I agree with amploud. You will have a good selection of areas.
Have you ever been here - just wondering if you have a frame of reference to understand how the outlying communities are connected and how each area has a different vibe.
Any idea on price range for rent? I would personally find something close to Davidson, as it is a very nice area and the college is a good place for low cost or free events. I agree that you should not need to commute more than 25 minutes to work.
In any case, Charlotte will be easy enuff to get back to for any nightlife you may want to pursue.

Huntersville is a great suggestion as is Birkdale Village.
I have not been to the Charlotte region before. I figure I could spend ~$1000/mo on rent and if I were to buy maybe $170k-$200k (depending on cost of property taxes/insurance which I have not looked into yet).

If you are lucky enough to work in Davidson, then live in Davidson! It's a nice little town with the college at its center. Your commute would be short and yet for partying getting to uptown Charlotte at night or on the weekend would be pretty easy.
I think the main things for me are to find a place where there are enough similar people (young, single); where there is a good mix of ethnic restaurants (Thai, Indian), and where I could go out and have a few drinks without having to worry about driving home.
